The RPG & DB2 Summit - Spring 2012
In March, 125 energetic IBM i professionals from as far away as Guyana, Costa Rica, Norway and Austria gathered at the RPG & DB2 Summit in Fort Worth to learn how to say "Yes i can!" to their users and mean it. For a visual tour of the event, check out the Summit Photo Gallery
Immediately, Paul taught us our first lesson - "What happens in Vermont . . . ends up on the Internet." (See photo of Skip at right.)
The week flew by with engaging sessions, lots of laughs, and easy conversations with the leading experts in IBM i development and database techniques.
Keynote speaker Bob Tipton captured everyone's attention on Monday with his common sense process for enabling change, whether personal or professional. He stayed to chat with us and sign our copies of his book, JUMP! - Get Unstuck. Even after he left, his voice peppered many conversations as attendees repeatedly related his wisdom to their jobs and daily lives. View the video here.
Speakers, attendees and vendors relaxed with each other during a reception and dinner Monday evening. Attendees collected lots of door prizes . . . once Skip fessed up to rigging the drawing. (Nicole, congrats on winning the Kindle Fire!) The SiD group also honored Skip's retirement with stories and gifts of the newest iPad and a scrapbook filled with memories of his time with SiD.
The next day, Fort Worth saw about 100 people in Summit shirts trek over to the Water Gardens sculpture appropriately named "The Mountain" for the traditional Summit group photo. Late in the day, Skip's last Summit session earned him a standing ovation from fans.
Several attendees told us that they got to know new friends at the Summit, and that the education paid for itself on Day 1.
A special thanks to our long-time friends Kent Milligan, Mike Cain, Barbara Morris, Scott Klement, Mike Pavlak, Aaron Bartell and Scott Salisbury for sharing their expertise so freely and for making a Summit education second to none.
The next SiD event? Check out the SQL for i Spotlight conference and hands-on workshops, June 5-8, 2012 at the IBM Innovation Center in Waltham, MA.
