The RPG & DB2 Summit - Fall 2014
A particularly engaging and good-natured group of IBM i professionals braved pervasive problems with air traffic control in Chicago to make it to Minneapolis for the 16th RPG & DB2 Summit. Their enthusiasm for learning made the week fly by.
Take a photo tour of the Summit to see some highlights.
We hosted more young developers than ever before this fall, many learning RPG on the job. What a thrill to read "you shouldn't assume familiarity with SEU" on a conference evaluation! Is the tide turning? Go RDi!
IBM i Chief Architect Steve Will filled us in on his strategy for our favorite platform, and told us to watch for announcements on integrated web services, mobile access to the IBM i and two new RPG features.
Attendees were excited to hear Barbara Morris describe the details of the "still-new-for-most-of-us" free-format RPG. SQL sessions were also popular - whether with RPG, CL or on its own. Overall, the speakers and sessions seem to have hit their mark with 100% of the evaluation forms specifically rating them Very Good or Excellent.
Prizes, prizes, prizes! At opening session, 4 "Super Alumni" - those onsite who have joined us for at least 5 Summit conferences - were honored with applause and the new Kindle Fire HDX tablet. Later that evening, many more attendees walked away with entertaining gifts, books, an MiP robot and a Samsung Galaxy Tab. Granted, Susan was sad to give up her new friend, the robot, but happy it found a good home.
Several people literally lost their marbles in the Exhibitor Showcase on Wednesday, but found them in time to earn their Brookstone Power Bank and a chance at winning an Amazon Fire TV. Then Summit exhibitors drew for their generous prizes. What are the chances that the same people could win so many times?
As always, the exceptional experts who round out the Summit family deserve kudos for its success: Scott Klement, Barbara Morris, Mike Cain, Kent Milligan, Aaron Bartell, Mike Pavlak, Guy Vig, Ted Holt, Tom McKinley, Dan Cruikshank, Scott Forstie and, of course, Keynote speaker Steve Will. Our thanks.
