This is why we do it!

As those of you who have attended one of our RPG & DB2 Summits will no doubt realize, there’s a lot of work involved in putting on these events. A LOT. Right now, instead of just focussing on Christmas (and with it the wedding of our youngest daughter), we’re already having to ramp up for the Spring Summit in Orlando. Hardly surprising then that from time to time we find ourselves wondering if we really do want to “Do it one more time”.

And then an email like the one we recently received from alumni Patrick Weaver arrives and we get exactly the kind of morale boost that we need to keep us motivated.

What did Patrick have to say you ask?

“Each Summit I attend inspires me to try new and different ways to modernize my IBM i applications. After the last Summit, I tackled an RPG program that was using the old standard READs, reading about 6 tables from beginning to end with a total of about 164.5 million rows. This program was running in about an hour and 24 minutes. I rewrote the program using embedded SQL and now it runs in 3 minutes and 45 seconds. So this stuff you’re teaching works OK, don’t you think?”

So thanks Patrick for reminding us exactly why we do this.

Hope to see you all in the spring.

Just to remind everybody reading this that we’ll be in Dallas for the next RPG & DB2 Summit from March 20th to the 22nd. Hope to see you there!
